Road construction

As the importance of the Republic of Belarus as a transit corridor between East and West has significantly increased, it’s becoming vital to maintain our roads in perfect condition, as well as constructing new roads. In this way, we’ll enhance Belarus’ transit attractiveness.

Road construction in the Republic of Belarus

 

Enterprises in this branch are doing all they can to make roads in the Republic safe, speedy and comfortable. The Republic’s major roads are the country’s calling card and a true legacy of the Belarusian nation, so are worth preserving and improving.

 

It’s the constant improvement of our international transport corridors that is attracting transit transport flow; companies know that our roads are safe and comfortable.

 

The main task is to ensure that our main roads, linking Minsk with regional centres, comply with European standards.

 

Reconstruction of the Puchavičy-Babrujsk road completed in 2013, as did the Žlobin-Homieĺ route in 2014, and sections of the M-5/E 271 Minsk-Homieĺ route. In 2015, reconstruction began on the Babrujsk-Žlobin section of the M-5/E 271, due for completion in 2016.

 

Road surfaces are being updated, with the second Minsk ring road having been resurfaced with cement concrete paving in 2015, and other roads likely to follow. In 2016, the M-6 Minsk-Hrodna road is to receive major improvement, funded by a World Bank loan of US$250 million.

 

State plans through until 2019 include the reconstruction of the P-23 Minsk-Mikašévičy motorway, and reconstruction of sections of the P-122 Mahilioŭ-Čerykaŭ-Kasciukovičy (from 7.8km to 82km), of the P-20 Viciebsk-Polack-border with the Latvian Republic (Hryharoŭščyna), and the M-8/E 95 border with the Russian Federation (Jezieryšča)-Viciebsk-Homieĺ-border with Ukraine (Novaja Huta). All are promising international roads.

 

As of January 1st, 2015, the Republic of Belarus boasted 86,749km of roads: 15,754km of main roads and 70,995km of local roads. According to the State Programme for Development and Maintenance of Roads in the Republic of Belarus for 2015-2019, by 2020, more than 7,000km of roads and 6,500 metres of bridges and flyovers will have undergone minor repairs while 1,600km of national roads and more than 8,000 metres of flyovers and bridges will have undergone capital repairs.

 

In constructing Belarusian raids, mainly domestic materials are used. The composition of asphalt concrete paving is being constantly improved, with the Belarusian Road Scientific and Research Institute (BeldorNII) involved in its development, able to accommodate vehicles weighing 11.5 tonnes per axle (as is usual for heavy haulage vehicles).

On August 1st, 2013, the National electronic toll collection system – BelToll

– was launched in Belarus, covering 1,512km of the country’s roads. Tolls are collected on the M-2 Minsk–National Airport Minsk route, as well as along the entire length of the M-1/E 30 Brest (Kazlovičy)–Minsk–border with the Russian Federation (Redźki) route, and along sections of the M-5/E 271 Minsk–Homieĺ and the M-6/E 28 Minsk–Hrodna–border with the Republic of Poland (Bruzhi), the M-3 Minsk–Viciebsk, the M-4 Minsk–Mahilioŭ, the P-1 Minsk–Dziaržynsk, and the M-7/E 28 Minsk–Ašmiany-border with the Lithuanian Republic (Kamienny Loh).

 

A general scheme of roadside service development is planned until 2020, envisaging the construction of new sites close to large settlements, situated near roads.

There are currently 146 gas fuelling stations and 369 other fuelling stations successfully operating along roads in the Republic of Belarus, in addition to sixty-seven hotels, eighty-nine guarded parking areas, forty car washes, more than 500 cafes, around 380 retail outlets and eighty garages.
