Crime countermeasures

One of the main aspects of state policy of Belarus is the provision of domestic security of the country, and first of all, crime and terrorism fighting.

The system of law enforcement agencies functions efficiently in the country. Precaution measures on the prevention of offenses are carried out regularly. An anti-corruption legislation has been passed. The international experience of combating raider attacks and other abuses in the field of entrepreneurship has been studied.

The concept on the improvement of the system of measures of criminal responsibility and the order of their execution was developed.

The most important goal of the state is the fight against corruption. The list of responsibilities of all state institutions and organizations includes corrupt practices countermeasures. Thus, in January-June 2012, 208 corruption cases have been registered in the Belarusian capital, which is 24,4% less than during the same period of 2011. The prosecution agencies performed 31 anti-corruption controls in Minsk.

The most important results of the work of all law enforcement agencies in 2012 was the decrease of the growth rate of criminality, the level of criminalization of the economy, the weakening of the positions of organized criminality, the improvement of the situation on the streets and in public places, the decrease by 12% of grave crimes and felonies, including willful murders, willful grave crimes against property, crimes related to drugs.

Belarus is actively implementing a complex of preventive measures on the suppression of extremism. It is also actively fighting against illicit drug and psychotropic substances trafficking. Over the past 2 years Belarus has included over 100 new drugs, psychotropic substances and their analogues, including 3 plants containing drugs in the list of banned preparations. And the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the country put forward the initiative to severe the punishment for the import of drugs to Belarus from the member countries of the Customs Union. This year the law enforcement officials of the Republic of Belarus shut off 29 supply channels of drugs to Belarus and took into custody 40 active members, including 4 Russian citizens and 2 Lithuanian citizens. The transit and import of drugs to Belarus comes from Western European countries and from the territory of Russia.
